The Origin of Ice Ages in the Solar System

It takes eight minutes for light to go from the sun to the earth. So we will see something, you know, that happens on the surface of the sun but all of these electrons and protons are going slower than the speed of light. And so we get to see what happened before that big blob of stuff arrives at the earth and has whatever effects it has. Yes, there are variations on long time scales. The whole structure of sort of planetary orbits in the solar system is pretty complicated.
