The Cabinet of Curiosities
William Arthur Bates Goodall lived on a small island in the Straits of Jehor. He considered himself a Robinson Caruso, named after Daniel Defoe's famous literary castaway. The four of them lived in peace until British journalist H. Harvey Day arrived to learn about his life there. William Goodall passed away in 1941 at the age of 61; he will always be remembered as the world's first voluntary castaway.
