P-801 as the Common Carrier for ER Blood Group Antigens

P-801 is a mechanosensitive cation channel first described in 2010. Its counterpart, the low frequency ERB antigen, was identified six years later. P-801 also plays a key role in regulating red cell volume in the circulation. Rare loss of function mutations result in generalized lymphatic dysplasia. More common autosomal dominant mutations have been linked to dehydrated hereditary stomatocytosis.
