The History of the Goths

Volphila was born a Tevindji, member of one particular Gothic subgroup. He fought in its army, he returned home, and fought against the Romans. The Huns drove him and many other Tevindji to seek refuge within a Roman Empire they knew intimately. At the Battle of Adrianople, Volphila was part of one of the greatest military defeats in the history of the Empire. Next week we'll turn our attention from the Goths to the Empire itself.
