What's the Relationship Between Productivity and Employment Growth?
In Adam Smith's Wealth of Nations, he says there are three factors that determine economic growth. The first is the number of workers employed productively in the economy. Second is how efficiently those workers work; third is employment growth. In manufacturing, we've seen a deindustrialization process not driven by rising rates of productivity growth but rather falling rates of output growth.
