The Importance of Learning a Language

There are three fluent elders left in Northern BC. The community is really trying to start from basics again, from mother tongue speakers and after school programs. Part of the motivation is more than just learning a language. It is a sense of identifying with a particular community that has organized around the sort of not terribly subtle moral message of the Avatar movie about both resource use and indigenous rights. You have to have people that are highly motivated by the ethos of the film.
