The Rise and Fall of the Burtures
There are ways in which institutions, democratic institutions and individuals do push back and constrain the far right. They ultimately I think succeed at branding the burtures as a kind of dirty word in American politics,. It's an epithet, a political slur. The burtures helped to forge this alternative political tradition on the far right but challenged mainstream conservatives even as they were part of that coalition. Burtures of course is also the story of how the John Birch Society radicalized the American right.
