The Role of Troponins in Risk Stratification
The most frequently used cardiac enzymes now are hopefully troponins and they've moved on from the other cardiac enzymes such as CKMB that dinosaurs like me used to use. They take time to be released into the bloodstream over the next few hours and are elevated after myocardial inflection for around a couple of weeks so they're really useful. A study currently ongoing in the UK called the presto study which is the pre-hospital evaluation of sensitive troponinStudy due to be published towards the end of this year. If that comes back as something feasible, it's going to be an absolute game changer for pre-hospital care and the UK healthcare system.
