What's the Story of Xinong?

Xinong is a Chinese plant-hunter who taught humans about agriculture. He also sussed out which plants were useful in medicine and which ones were poison. In some tellings, he's not actually eating them but thrashing them with a reddish brown whip. Some versions state that Chinong is particularly good at figuring all of this out because he has a crystal stomach.
