variable fonts are basically take this concept of what if we gave variable declarations to font designers and allowed them to control the way that a vector font works. So it can go some pretty simple stuff, like just like how wide the strokes are in the characters. You can get some bolding effects. You can go more complex. This is a very like big rich feature that allows type designers more expressivity without having to create like a whole bunch of different font files for all these different glyphs.
