A lot of the central planners would be proclaimed secularists, but they're trying to play God in a way. If people are too incompetent, took after themselves, so they need a wise father figure to organize them and tell them what to do. You find the same thing in the economic central planners with a very disdainful view of most people. Most people would just remain mired in poverty and incompetence,.
