The Black American Population Is Different Today Than It Was 20 or 30 Years Ago
LZ Granderson: If you're looking at the black American population, it is markedly different today than it was 20 or 30 years ago. He asks what that might mean for this language of solidarity and cultural persistence. "We have a very narrow, myopic, kind of shade-obsessed notion of diversity," he says. LZ: The one that ought to dominate is one that recognizes there is profound diversity amongst individuals.
