The Myth of Charles Mackey

Charles Mackey was born in Nelson in 1872. His dad was a school principal first at Nelson College, then in Wellington College. Charles Mackey himself was a star student. He went farming to Midhurst in Taranaki where his father had retired. In 1900 it was home to a big sawmill and dairy factory. Instead he trained as a lawyer working at a firm run by William Malone. The same Malone who would diet Gallipoli in 1915, leading the famous doomed assault on Chinook Bear.
