Boethius arrives at this point only after a long dialogue with his visitor, Lady Philosophy. At first the prisoner is too distraught to worry about these logical niceties. Here though we are dealing with the version of the difficulty discussed by Augustine. Once we admit that God knows future events with certainty, don't we have to conclude that there are indeed present truths about those events and that the truths are necessary?
