The classic sleeping pills are typically a strong benzos. The newer ones will simply tickle that receptor in a slightly different way, with somewhat less side effects. There are some anti anxiety and anti crescent medications that have been typically prescribed off label for sleep problems. Trasedone is interesting but i can't tell you anything about whether you should get it prescribed or not. It does seem to have some potential benefit in terms of increasing the amount of deep sleep.
