Isa obdulkerim was released from prison after serving two and a half years. He failed to check in with his parole officer, which is one of the requirements of your parole. Is it common for somebody to be sent to jail for a parole violation? New york has historically been one of the two worst states in terms of locking people up for what are called technical parole violations.

Twelve people at Rikers Island have died in custody so far this year. The pandemic is only part of the problem, explains Nick Pinto, who is covering the string of deaths for the Intercept.
