I think evolutionary considerations help they support one argument in favor of the pragmatic of the ethical value of not self. No self has to do with disidentifying with body and mind as self. It's as much a injunction as it is a description. I don't look at evolution in the way that you're describing it, but that's maybe not so immediately relevant to the core point.
