China's Greatest Mausoleum
The emperor chin shi wang left very specific requests for his burial. He was buried in a vast mausoleum, one of the most remarkable constructions of the ancient world. It is estimated that chinchi hwang was buried with eight thousand soldiers, 130 chariots with 520 horses and a full retinue of royal body guards to protect their king in the next life. The floor was painted to look like the lands of china, with its rivers represented by flowing str s of mercury. Mercury was used to simulate the hundred rivers, the yanke, the yellow river and the great sea, and set to flow mechanically. Above were of the heavenly constellations.
