The History of the Dissident Movements in Eastern Europe
The West assumed that when people rebelled against socialism, or a sort of state socialism, what they wanted was a free market economy. But none of these things were the case with dissident movements in eastern europe. People didn't know how to use democracy as an emancipatory category. And so for us in albania, and i think this generalize is actually across eastern europe, there was a sense in which the internal discourse of dissidents against state socialism was coopted by those who thought they had won the cold war.
