The way the city interacts with telephones has only deepened over time, even if this specific technology has changed a bit. New Yorkers are always on their phone. They're actually on their phones more because now you can be on your phone on the subway. Take the 311 service, which was introduced by Mayor Bloomberg in 2003 as a way of streamlining dozens of agency call centers into one easy to remember phone number.
