Are They Creating a Culture of Misbehavior?
CEOs with prior legal infractions are more likely to make more profitable trades. Profits seem to increase with how severe the infraction is, and there seems to be a correlation between that and insider trading. The materialistic people themselves may not be participating in the fraud, but their management style sometimes is such that they create a blue sculpture where other people have more opportunities of committing fraud.
