How to Assess a Shoulder Problem
I'd begin any examination by asking them to perform a baseline test that reproduces their problem so for many people this will just simply be elevating the arm. I'm always returning to the baseline test to see whether movements of the neck either reduce pain or increase range of motion. If you move the neck and it worsens apparent shoulder symptoms that gives you a signal that it's worth spending time today looking more closely at the neck if there is no change. There are times where I where I might go down that process but if by moving the neck through cervical retraction extension flexion and side flexion if there's no effect on the shoulder then at least for that day I would
