The Unknowable Desire of a Young Person
One of the things that I love about these early sections of the novel is there's this sort of capturing of a younger person's way of witnessing the world. It doesn't feel like you are condescending to this. This doesn't feel sentimentalised or simplified. There's a sort of lived-inness of that experience and an honouring of something. And another aspect that seems to be occurring for the first time in this, as you're talking about,. it's almost like a desire in a way, or like a sort of, but somehow it's an uncomprehended desire in some way.
