The Importance of Variety in Games
In his introduction to cybernetics, Ashby explains variety in terms of a game where two agents are playing a game on a board. If B is constrained in some way, like, there's one hand tied behind its back, it will be out of balance. And it will invariably lose the game because system A will simply outperform as they have better moves. It's interesting that Ashby puts this in kind of game theoretic terms. Yeah, I mean, that's a practical thing that comes up a lot in games.
