The Phenomenology of Consciousness
If we know that consciousness is there, why do we have it? I don't think there need be any single reason why consciousness is part of the universe. For all creatures that are conscious, i think there's a good hint about function when we think about what we can call the phenomenology of consciousness. And if you think about you're conscious experience at any particular time, it brings together a vast amount of information about the world in a way that's useful to guide your behaviour.
