CHAPTER

Lorraine's Life and Times

Lorraine's affairs buoyed her up when the reality of her days was mostly the slog of childcare. She put the wolf's clothes in the washing machine and nursed him when he was sick. Quent would never have chosen her if she hadn't had a certain style. Her mother died when she was thirteen, her older sister married into the military. Lorraine was rootless and all but estranged from her family. Even if her father and sister had wanted to get together with Quent, he'd refused to have anything to do with them. He said the old man was a fascist and her sister was too fucked up.
