Scientists have been studying the very vocal seals on these beaches for more than a decade. And in their latest experiment, researches managed stealthily to capture cordings of seal pups and their mothers during the breeding season. As doctor caroline casey from the university of california santa cruz told me, this audio research has revealed something about how mothers and pups communicate that only hidden microphones could capture.
