In 18 81, the russian czar was assassinated by a group of revolutionaries. Many people in the russian empire blame the jews. And this outbreak of violence hit the jewish community like a ton of bricks. Young jews who had been pouring so much of themselves into becoming a part of Russian culture just went bazerk. i guess people were antisemitic, and they took advantage of this, for sure.
