In Tolkien's mythology, evil introduces itself into the very act of creation. This is what you point out in the opening of the Silmarillion. You are a creature with free will and you are doing something wrong but you can't actually break out of God's providential control. It's not possible. But there is a higher purpose behind that pain and suffering. The world is a story. Like God has a history of redemption, a narrative of redemption that he's telling.
