Weber sees human freedom and individuality as being deeply menaced by the emergence of modern societies. He's really concerned with the kinds of character, the ways of life, the outlooks, the habits that are being formed. And he doesn't really have an answer to this problem other than to articulate and to seek rather unsuccessfully in many ways to exemplify this alternative form of character.
