The Dream and the Underworld
Hillman's personal psychological philosophy, what he called archetypal psychology, seek to rectify this by marrying myth and psychology. The underworld is a realm of only psyche, a pure psychical world. What one meets there is soul or to say this in another way, underworld is the mythological style of describing a psychological cosmos. Our psyches wake up to this underworld at night in dreaming and sleeping. In fact, our psyches are in it right now. They're simultaneously in both the living realm and in the underworld. We must go over the bridge into the dream and let it fall behind us. And if it will not fall, then let it burn.
