The US's Arm Sales to Taiwan
The US agreed to sever formal diplomatic and military ties with Taiwan as part of its normalization agreement with China. That was formalized in 1979 and they had two communiques then. In 1982, they issued a third joint communique regarding US arms sales to Taiwan. It does sound like that the US agreed to eventually stop. Arm sales or at least reduce them to a level and they've increased in recent years.
