In 19 o one, 19 o two, there was a printing company in brooklyn which was having a terrible time with its summer time work. There had been a series of heat waves each of these years and they were in the business of color printing. So this very young engineer, just out of college, named willis carrier, was working for the buffalo forge company. Was able to lower the humidity in this printing company, and that they found out that the employees were making a point of eating their lunch in this room. This was the basis for what we now call air conditioning.
