The Importance of Relativism in Feelings Management
Some people use God and religion in general as part of their toolkit for feelings management. Reaching in God, praying and engaging in certain religious rituals gives certain people a sense of mission or consolation. Other people by contrast find religion really stressful. It's boring and when it's not boring, it's threatening. For these people, God and religion are not helpful parts of a toolkit for felt management. If this is right, then it's interesting to know that somehow for feelings managers, you don't believe things because you think they're true. You believe things because doing so helps you feel better.
