Is the Tabernacle a Barrier to God?
The amount of time that the text spends on something is a signal to how much weight the author is giving it. I think if we see Exodus as the answer to the problems of Genesis, this can go some way to helping us understand it. So there's barriers so that somebody doesn't accidentally stumble into the presence of God and get zapped because it's dangerous to be that close to God. But he wants to be in the midst of their community. Yes. Because God is concerned about our preservation, not his purity. And that's a far more hospitable and gracious way of thinking about it.
