Plato was worried about the cognitive effects of reading and writing in his time. The four cardinal virtues as we all know are practical wisdom courage justice and temperance. There is an underlying theory for both the Stoics and Socrates that these are really four aspects of the same underlying thing. That's known as the unity of virtues.
