The Guidelines for Sentence
The guidelines tend to be fairly harsh particularly with you know when you're accumulating a whole bunch of white collar crime things it tends to drive big sentences. People who don't have a criminal record are more likely to see something significantly below the guideline than someone who robbed a bank. I assume the reason that we don't often see high quality estimates in news articles is that because the guidelines are so complicated the reporters lack the necessary expertise to figure out what the actual likely sentence is. Usually the prosecutors and the defense are only the ones who have that right now.
