The Importance of Philosophy in Life

I was suggesting that philosophy might be important because it helps us figure out what the best way to live life is or what the best sort of life is. I don't mean to imply that if I characterize philosophy as really thinking itself, thinking systematically, that what I consider ethical in the way I act has not been affected by my doing philosophy. However, there are only a couple questions. Maybe vegetarianism is one of them. That's an active ethical question for me that reading and thinking more about it philosophically really could push me one way or the other.
