There's a lot of studies that have shown that many men who identify as sex addicts actually engage in less sexual activity than average, but feel more shame about their sexuality. So this may indicate what is termed as a sex addiction stems from cultural or religious attitudes about sexuality and the role that sex should play in people's daily lives. Most experts agree that more research on sex addiction is needed.
