The Bay of Pigs landings were supposed to be a U.S.-led invasion, but the plan fell apart when Castro's planes failed to destroy all their bombs. CIA chief Dean Rusk convinced JFK to call off further air strikes on Cuba after hearing about the bombing failure. The biggest myth is that John F. Kennedy didn't know what he was up against; many believe it was his fault for not planning better.
