Ice Scrapers - How to Clean Up After the Horses
A team of horses would be used to scrapers over the ice, scraping up all the dirt and impurities that had settled on that top layer. Then men or boys would sort of scoot behind them, scoop through and clean up after the horses. Once it's been cleaned up and shined, then they would mark off a border around the ice to be harvested withlike, a three inch groove in it. And then into that groove, place a special plou that containd two blades, one to follow the groove and the other to cut a perfectly straight new groove in the ice.
