The Mystery of the Christian Tradition
Paul was a Jew who had been brought up in the Latin Roman tradition and regarded himself as a Roman citizen. He realized how he could synthesize imagery of the Greek mysteries, and Paul's language is entirely mystery-cut language. What he saw was the Savior's figure, of whom he has represented throughout that tradition, the Savior was Jesus. And this is the idea which, in the other cults around and about, was represented simply through mythological characters. With the idea that you, as an individual, assume the inspiration that mythological characters should find the life within yourself, in the case of Jesus, has become historically incarnate.
