The Reality of the Opposite Provides the Engine of Consciousness

Yung: People are not mutable around their language of the opposite. If we drop down into a more neutral, conceptual way of thinking of the opposite, then we can often tolerate finding little threads of values that really are quite different from how we think of ourselves consciously. Yung puts forward is that the reality of the opposites, whether or not we're conscious of them, provides the engine of consciousness. That without the dynamism of theopposites, that we would not be able to function...that we would fall into a kind of psychological torpor.
