"I have looked far and wide, high and low, for somebody to save me," he writes. "When i say save me, i mean accept me." He says the trappings of masculinity and femininity are just sex kinks that either turn you on or not. The book ends with him telling a young boy it would be a mistake to wait around for anyone to save you.

Brian Broome is a poet, screenwriter, and instructor in the Writing Program at the University of Pittsburgh. He has been a finalist in The Moth storytelling competition and won the grand prize in Carnegie Mellon University’s Martin Luther King’s Writing Awards.
