The british army just started rounding up acted members of the i r a and put them in what amounted to a prisoner of war camp. They didn't get to plead their case in front of a judge if they accidentally got scooped up. There was no recourse for getting out of there. And it really, really robbed the public the wrong way,. Because it's 19 71, you know, yes, iisn't like the the seventeenth century all over again.
