Before A Study in Scarlet, the idea of a detective solving crimes using deductive reasoning and forensic science almost didn't exist. After Sherlock Holmes, or even arguably because of Sherlock Holmes, things began to change. Among those leading the charge for change were two Frenchmen, Alphonse Bertillon and Alexander Lacasson. Our boy, Edmund LeCard, managed to study with both Bertillon and La Casan.
