History That Doesn't Suck

CHAPTER

The Seneca Women's Convention

The united states first ever women's rights convention was held in 18 forty eight at seneca falls, new york. The convention votes to sign a document called a declaration of sentiments which asserts that all men and women are created equal. They fly through unanimously, with the exception of the ninth,. which makes the daring claim that women should have the right to vote. So while many women are prepared to speak up for more rights than the doctrine of coverture currently affords them, calling for the vote feels too radical even for them. It's only with the hard lobbying of elizabeth katy stanton or frederick douglas that the ninth resolution passes.
