I've been doing experiment with this sort of approach since the late 90s and it hasn't caught on partly because it's easier to optimize a system for efficiency if it's doing only one thing. The biggest difference is just the libraries for training stuff on huge amounts of data on multi-GPU farms efficiently. I think we need a similar leap forward in low-level software and its use of commodity hardware. We're rewriting OpenCog for scalability based on everything we've learned since playing with the first version. And then I'm working with my friend Rachel St. Clair, what's going to be called Simulai based out of Florida. They've co-designed an AGI
