The Personal Side of Politics

At heart, all of these conflicts were about the rights that different political actors claimed. The factions who fought for control of Barcelona believed they had the right to be ruled by a King of their choosing. In this period, tensions between those competing claims lent themselves to sustained and often violent conflict. This brings us back to the first of our three themes: personal side of politics.
