What Is Cultural Psychiatry?

Dr. Jarvis: Culture is an important and central concept in this field. In the DSM-5, culture is defined as systems of knowledge, concepts, and rules and practices that are learned and transmitted across generations. We have cultures that we've grown up learning and understanding and believing; part of cultural psychiatry is to seriously consider what those core beliefs are that may or may not be shared by other people.
